1.14.2012 - Internationally famous, award-winning inventor, researcher, lecturer and writer, Arthur M. Bohanan, will be speaking at our January meeting. After a short business meeting, the public portion of the program is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. in the library conference room. Mr. Bohanan will discuss crime scene investigation, specifically fingerprints on skin. He will share anecdotes of unusual incidents, cases and/or findings he's run across during his career. He'll also provide insight into the day to day experiences working as a senior forensics examiner. Visitors are welcome. It is possible that some content could be graphic. Please consider the subject matter and use discretion in deciding to attend. 

Mr. Bohanan is a certified Latent Print Examiner, a certified FEMA Mass Fatality Course Instructor and a certified police instructor with 50 years in the study and practical application of forensics in thousands of violent crime scenes.   He created the first ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) task force in Tennessee in 1999 and worked in an online undercover capacity as a Police Specialist III, former AFIS Manager and Senior Forensic Examiner with the Knoxville Police Department until he retired in 2001. He pioneering research involving children’s fingerprints.  He has completed research at the University of Tennessee’s  “Body Farm”, with the F.B.I., and Oak Ridge National Lab.  He is a senior forensic consultant and instructor for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the national Amber Alert Program. He has authored and co-authored numerous books and is a founding father of the National Forensic Academy  at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Among his extensive list of accomplishments, Mr. Bohanan holds the patent for “Method and Apparatus for Detecting Fingerprints on Skin." He also discovered that fingerprints of children prior to puberty are chemically different from adult prints.
