Volunteers
Observers Needed
We are
looking for a few interested persons to help observe and collect data on
domestic violence cases in the Knox County courts. The purpose of this
program is threefold:
-
to
provide feedback to personnel who handle cases regarding family
violence,
-
to
facilitate communication between the justice systems and the community
systems committed to a comprehensive program to reduce family violence,
and
-
to
increase public interest and information regarding family violence and
the courts through trained volunteer observe.
Each volunteer is asked to participate in a half day training program.
As a volunteer you are given a simple one page questionnaire that you
complete as you review court files and observe what is happening in court.
This can be a fun, informative and very valuable volunteer experience.
We attempt to have one volunteer in court each morning. However the number
of days you volunteer and the minimum hours can be flexible. We would like
to ask that each volunteer spend a minimum of one morning (9:30am-noon) each
month if possible. Some volunteers choose to come once a week or more and
that is wonderful also. Some mornings the sessions are over before 11am and
the volunteers leave whenever they are finished.
